What is a Cane Card?
The Cane ID Card is an on-campus student identification card. It must be picked up in person from Allen Hall #111 (you must present a government issued photo ID when picking your card). The Cane Card gives you access to buildings such as the residence hall, the Otto G. Richter Library, computer laboratories, the swimming pool in the Whitten University Center, and the Student Wellness Center (for those who purchase a membership). It allows you to check out books from the library, gain access to athletic events (fee required), purchase discounted Metrorail tickets, and eat in the cafeterias (if you have a meal plan).
All University of Miami students, faculty and staff are required to carry their Cane Cards for identification purposes while on campus.
New students, once they are registered for classes, need to come to the Cane Card office (Allen Hall, room #111) with a valid photo I.D., to have their photo taken and then have their Cane Card issued. During Fall Orientation, your Cane Card can be picked up at the University Center. There is no charge for your first card.
