Message from Associate Provost for OAA
At the SACS Annual Meeting on December 2008, the University of Miami received reaffirmation of accreditation for the next ten years. We are very appreciative of the hard work and dedication that our faculty, staff and students committed to this process.
Our work, however, is just beginning. Under the leadership of President Donna E. Shalala and Provost Thomas J. LeBlanc, UM will continue to conduct university-wide program assessment, both at the academic and non-academic levels, in an effort to continue measuring our institutional effectiveness. We invite the university community to familiarize itself with the SACS web site and review the contents including:policies and procedures, SACS revised standards, substantive change and online programs, etc.
The OAA throughout the course of the year will conduct workshops for different groups inside the university on how to more effectively use assessment results in an effort to continue improving our classroom instruction. Our goal at the University of Miami is to persist in our efforts to pioneer advances in student learning, teaching, research and institutional assessment. Our ultimate goal is to be the very best. I am hopeful that the University of Miami community will join me in continuing to foster our robust educational environment.
Dr. Andy S. Gomez
