Wellness Programs

It takes more than physical exercise to maintain good health. Wellness goes far beyond the physical realm, and includes intellectual, social, emotional, spiritual, occupational, and global wellness. The key to leading a healthy lifestyle is maintaining a balance between the various forms of wellness. That is why the Herbert Wellness Center offers a wide variety of classes such as meditation, healthy cooking, smoking cessation and nutrition education, among others. Many of the programs that are offered are free and open to the general public.

The Wellness Suite staff also provides outreach programming, through our Wellness on Demand program, so if your department or student group is having a retreat or weekly meeting, consider a wellness presentation on a topic that will benefit both the department and the individual.

Want to learn more about the Wellness Suite? Look over our reference guide for a quick overview of available services, presentation topics, and upcoming events.

Wellness Promotions and Media Outreach

The Wellness Suite is always working hard to help you stay well. Bulletin boards all around the Herbert Wellness Center are updated frequently not only to entertain you, but to keep you informed about interesting and important health topics that matter to you. Bulletin board topics vary, but featured health topics will be presented each month. In addition to Bulletin boards, you're also likely to find white boards announcing upcoming programs in the Wellness Center or around campus.

Also, check out this month's issue of the Potty Post, the Herbert Wellness Center's monthly bathroom Wellness Newsletter! The Potty Post can also be found in many of the residential college restrooms.

The Wellness Center likes to venture out to spread the word about how to stay healthy and happy, too! Look out for Wellness Table Tents in various dining areas on campus that provide useful information about wellness and upcoming events on campus and in the Herbert Wellness Center.

But wait, there's more!! The Wellness Suite staff is always coming up with new and exciting ways to provide you with information!! The Wellness Suite staff likes to give away free goodies that champion the well lifestyle, such as pamphlets, condoms (every Wednesday!), hats, towels, pens, posters, and more. So, remember to keep your eyes peeled when you're at the Wellness Center!

Wellness Central Newsletter

Wellness Central is a monthly newsletter (via email - during the fall and spring semesters only) of all wellness-oriented programming occurring on campus for students. It was originally created for Residential Assistants as a resource that collected all wellness-related information for easy reading and also provided bulletin boards, health articles, fact sheets, and other useful materials for posting. The Wellness Central listserv has since been expanded to include other UM community members who are interested in learning about wellness activities on campus.

Interested in joining the listserv? Email afalcon1@miami.edu and type "Wellness Central subscribe" into the subject field. The more the merrier!
