FAQs

What are Intramurals?
Intramurals are competitive team sports, such as flag football, soccer, basketball and softball, among others.  Teams compete against other teams within the UM community.  There are many different divisions within intramurals.  These include IFC, Men's, Women's, Panhellenic and the Co-Recreational leagues.

Where do I sign up?  Is there a cost?
Registration takes place in the Administrative Offices of the Herbert Wellness Center weekdays from 8:30 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.  There is a $40 forfeit bond for team sports and a $10 entry fee for most special events.  A forfeit bond will be returned to you upon request if you do not forfeit any games during the entire season.

Who can play Intramurals?
Wellness Center members who are full-time students or are UM faculty and staff can participate in Intramurals and Special Events. Special events and one-day tournaments are open to Herbert Wellness Center members (i.e. Alumni.) Students who are not members may purchase a $20 Intramural playing card for the semester.

Do I need a team to play?
If you do not already have a team, it doesn't mean you have to miss out.  Through our free agent program, you can be placed on a team and meet new friends!

Can I play on more than one team?
The only way you may play on more than one team is by playing on a Co-Recreational team as well as a men's or women's team.

How long does the season last?
For each of the team sports, each team will play 4-6 games per season.  Once the season is over, a single elimination tournament will take place.  Some of the team sports are played Monday through Thursday, others are played on Sundays.  Throughout the week, games are played at 6:30 p.m., 7:30 p.m., 8:30 p.m., or 9:30 p.m.  Sunday games are played all afternoon.  Special events are usually played on Saturdays.

Where are the games played?
All Intramurals and special events are played in the Herbert Wellness Center or on the newly renovated Yaron Fields.

Can I work for Intramurals?
Most definitely.  We are always looking for great officials to referee our events.  All students looking for some extra money, or just looking to have some fun, should consider officiating for the IM department.  There are training sessions for officials before each of the team sports.

Where can I get more information?
If you are unable to find what you are looking for on our website, feel free to call the Intramural Hotline at 305-284-8501 or Tom Soria at 305-284-8518.
